Hello! This isin the heart of Cheshire.

A big THANK YOU to my young daughter for her clever design for 'Winsford'.  I feel she has summed up the "wind in the sails", or "ripples on the water" beautifully.

This is Winsford as seen from Wharton Common.  Below the grass, and the other side of the trees is the River Weaver.  In the middle of this photograph is the shopping centre.

Winsford is a medium sized town, in the heart of rural Cheshire.  It is made up from the 'old' villages of Wharton and Over.

It is part of Vale Royal Borough and Vale Royal Borough Council have their headquarters located in the centre of Town.

Winsford is twinned with Deuil-la-Barre, France.  The Twinning Charter was signed in May 1993.

It's people are warm and friendly, and the town boasts a mix of very old, old and new houses.

Another wonderful thing about Winsford is it's weather; we are located in the 'Cheshire Gap'.  Winsford is between the Welsh Mountains, the Pennines and the Peak District.  We are protected from the worst of the weathers.  One problem we do have is the difficulty in trying to forecast the weather, we drive the Met Office mad!

There are a lot of Small, and independent, Businesses operating in Winsford.

There are restaurants and take-aways offering different types of food, Public Houses and Bars and Clubs.  Winsford has many Social Clubs too.

There is Bed & Breakfast Accommodation available throughout the wide geographic area Winsford covers.  Winsford also offers many wonderful places to walk to and around, like the Whitegate Way, and is ideally situated to visit places of interest, i.e. Oulton Park Circuit, Jodrell Bank, Delamere Forest and Roman Chester to name but a few.

Winsford is surrounded by farms and farmland, which also leads to farm shops for purchasing fresh produce.

There are bus services and Winsford has a railway station with a direct line to Liverpool and Crewe, and a very good network of taxis.  Of course we are also only a few miles from the M6, allowing easy travel to the north and south of the U.K.

The library is staffed by helpful and friendly people, and have extended their opening hours, and you can re-new your books on line.  Our library also houses the Registrar's Office.

Winsford has many schools and educational establishments too.

It also has a Civic Hall where shows and concerts are put on, as well as regular Blood Donor sessions being held there.  Winsford has it's own Citizens Advice Bureau, a Careers Centre and also hosts Vale Royal's Business Link.

There are doctors, medical centres, dentists, opticians, chemists and veterinary practices; in fact just about anything you may wish to name is in, or around, Winsford.  And we still have a local police station.

We have two local Newspapers; the Winsford Chronicle and the Winsford Guardian.

There are many Churches around, some very old and with interesting stories about them.  Most religions are catered for.

Each year Winsford holds a Carnival.  Many local schools, clubs and businesses enter floats.  The procession travels along local residential roads until it arrives at the Verdin School grounds, where competitions are held along with a fun fair.

Winsford has it's own football club too.  Barnton Stadium is the home of Winsford United FC.

There are sporting facilities too.  Knights Grange Sports Complex & Golf Course for out of doors activities and Winsford Indoor Sports Complex, which includes a swimming pool, gymnasium, squash courts and sauna, is located in the town.  Our sailing club is based at the Flashes.

Winsford is famous for it's 'Flashes'; an area of pools off it's river, the Weaver, form a wonderful and very popular Marina.

Our town used to be the centre of Salt working, and still has extensive salt caverns, once visited by BBC's Blue Peter.  Some of these caverns are now being used to safely store archive materials for all manner of organizations.

Winsford also boast good shopping facilities within it's pedestrianised shopping centre, and in nearby 'out of town' retail parks.

We also host industrial estates in several locations just on the outskirts of town.  Winsford offers quite diverse commerce.

Cheshire Fire Service have their headquarters here.

Cheshire Constabulary has relocated to Winsford, from Chester.  Their new headquarters is fully operational.

Being an old town that has been modernised in some parts, while other areas have not changed at all, Winsford has an interesting history too.
